King Pigeons are the most prolific squabbing pigeon species available for home consumption and commercial operations. Squab is considered a delicacy and is a moist form of poultry and is high in protein. Squab can be enjoyed as a main coarse or as a specialty side dish. Squab is usually a bit more expensive than other poultry. Other species of pigeons such as the Carneau, Runt, Texan Pioneer, and Modena have been used for squabbing. Those breeds have proven to be far less applicable for consistency and reliability as a squabbing pigeon. However, the King Pigeon was developed using some of the other breeds we mentioned. The King Pigeon is a great breeder and brooder for squab production. Most breeding pairs are expected to produce 14-16 pair of squabs per year. The King Pigeon is widely known to be a white or silver species but is now available in other color variants. Please review the links below as you consider production of this breed of squabbing pigeon.
